At Revitamed Health we realise the wide-reaching effects severe hayfever can have on our patients. Those who don’t suffer, or have minimal symptoms, can often view hayfever as a minor issue of a runny nose and sneezing that should be managed with the medications that are available from all pharmacies.
Unfortunately, despite taking maximum doses of tablets, nasal sprays and eyedrops, there are some individuals for which summer can feel like a nightmare. For example, it can cause asthmatic symptoms thereby reducing exercise tolerance; severe sinus headaches and facial pains; poor concentration due to disturbed/poor quality sleep; continuous cough from postnasal drip; allergic conjunctivitis and eyelid swelling.
Hayfever Appointment
During your hayfever appointment our GP will go over your full medical history and will assess if you are suitable for the injectable corticosteroid (Kenalog) injection. This injection works by reducing the inflammation caused by an allergic response. It dampens down the body’s overactive immune reaction to pollen, providing relief for the hayfever season. This is not an option for all patients, as it also has the potential to reduce our overall immune system, if this is not suitable the GP will come up with a full alternative treatment plan.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the hayfever injection available on the NHS?
No, the NHS does not routinely offer steroid injections for hayfever due to potential side effects. However, private clinics like Revitamed Health provide this option for those with severe, treatment-resistant symptoms.
How quickly does it work?
Most patients notice relief within 24 to 48 hours. The effects can last for several weeks—often covering the whole hayfever season.
Is it safe?
The injection is generally safe when given under medical supervision, but it’s not suitable for everyone. That’s why we carry out a full consultation to assess your suitability before treatment.
